What the president wants is for people to spend time arguing about what happened a VERY long time ago, so they ignore what's happening RIGHT NOW.
It's always something whether it's Schiavo, Creationalism he doesn't care one way or the other. The important thing is that there is a nice line drawn down the middle of the country and it'll keep everyone entertained while he does whatever he likes. In regards to the Earth being flat... it was a totally reasonable thing to think at the time. Based on the knowledge available at the time, they make logical assumptions. Exactly like we are doing now.
It's been about 200 years since the first evidence came about to suggest that evolution might be able to explain the origin of species. I think it took only about 50 for round earth to become generally accepted, although the most famous skeptic died only a few years ago (refused to believe even after photographs from space were shown to him)
Fascinating post, but you've missed out on the real reason why Christians wouldn't like to have "Creation-ism" or "Scientific-Masturbation"... see, for Christians, that cultic branch of fools who rely on something greater then themselves, wouldn't dare to look at Creation through a Science lense... for them everything is seen through a Christological lense. What does this mean for those outside of their cultic little circle? Such a concept as this "Scientific-Masturbation" simply can't be understood, it will always appear false and never be trusted, simply because it falls through some fallible process of evaluation. That's the heart of the problem really, those outside of the click won't ever get it - and it's those outside of the click that'll be teaching it. That'd roughly be equivalent to having a garbage man without a high school diploma try teaching you how to play the cello.
Anyhow, if you ever get bored and are really interested in getting an apologetic answer to this faith-based-thing called Evolution, consider reading Darwin's Black Box. QUOTE: that cultic branch of fools who rely on something greater then themselves, wouldn't dare to look at Creation through a Science lense... for them everything is seen through a Christological lense This is probably the primary point of my blog entry - to put it simply: asking for Creation to be taught as science can only lead to a diminishing of both faith and science. Although I don't generally refer to Christians as "cultic ... fools" for personal reasons. QUOTE: That'd roughly be equivalent to having a garbage man without a high school diploma try teaching you how to play the cello This is not quite accurate. It would be more like having a researcher try to teach you how to play the cello By the way, I think you mean "clique" QUOTE: faith-based-thing called Evolution I believe this may be a typo, as evolution is not based on faith, but instead on observation. The *only* faith is that human memory and observation can be transmitted from one person to another through writing and education, something that may be misplaced in this country. If you want to read a concise summary of the evidence I am speaking of that debunks the factual basis for Creation, you can read Evolution and the Myth of Creationism
There are a couple of things i see:
- Creationism can only be used as how not to be a good scientist example. Anyone remember Galileo Galilei? - Most people don't seem to understand the bible is not to be interpreted literally. (True for believers and not-believers)
Just curious Tim, but what scientific proof do you have to that effect? *grin*
