Sadly though, this will really limit who is able to use this library.
How will it limit people who can use this library ?
The fact that it runs on PHP 5.1 ? The current way is to use http://go-pear.org (just execute the script) to get started.
Well, the issue is for those, the majority out there, who will not be running their own boxes and more then likely not have PHP 5.1.0 available to them. A bulk of hosting companies haven't made the move to 5.0 yet and 5.1.0 is pretty far off the map.
Greg,
Maybe so, but the fact that majoritavely speaking web hosts (sadly) have not upgraded. If this were not the case, this news about PHP_Archive would be great, but it is the case and unless I am completely in the dark, the PEAR userbase is not large enough to compel the vast number of web hosts out there to get their act together and upgrade.
Well of course they haven't, it is not even stable yet
Just used it on windows, the file selection dialog popping up is nice !
It works like a charm
One note though, after installing it under windows running the command "pear" gives an error.
'"c:\php"' n'est pas reconnu en tant que commande interne If I edit pear.bat and write "%PHP_PEAR_PHP_BIN%\php.exe" at the bottom of the file things work fine. That's under XP, PHP lives under c:\php.
Thanks for this fix.
However I have one remaining problem, I have no pear.bat file in the directory structure anywhere. I do have peardev.bat and pecl.bat, pear.bat_old and the go-pear.bat file but even though the go-pear gave a message to the console saying it had backed up the pear.bat and pear.bat was now 'at my service'....... it is not? Have things change? Is one of the other .bat files the new pear.bat? Where do I go from here? Oh OS = Win XP SP2 & PHP 5.2.0 (cli) (built: Nov 2 2006 11:57:36) Copyright (c) 1997-2006 The PHP Group Zend Engine v2.2.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2006 Zend Technologies Thanks Chris
OK, I sorted it by renaming the pear.bat_old and using that (right or wrong?).
By the way Greg, This phar contains a alpha version of PEAR 1.4.0a13 which caused me about 5 (newbie) hours of hassle trying to upgrade it. It just would not play along with the upgrade command for some reason. Eventually I found the one page that helped which I will put here so the next newbie wont loose quite so much time and hair http://blog.gmane.org/gmane.comp.php.pear.qa/month=20050801/page=8 Hope this helps somebody.
Hi Chris,
This is a *really* old blog entry. Official .phars are available at: http://pear.php.net/go-pear.phar http://pear.php.net/install-pear-nozlib.phar Currently, these contain PEAR version 1.5.0 and the latest versions of everything it depends on. |
