Le disaster, or Air France's incredible disappearing luggage trick

Well, today is a very good day.

Upon arriving in Bologna 3 days ago, we were stunned to discover that between the four of us, Air France managed to lose every bag we had checked from JFK -> Charles de Gaulle -> Bologna. That's 7 bags, count 'em. Because of TSA security, I have always packed my cello's endpin in the luggage to avoid a nasty scene (I'm sorry sir, we have to confiscate your instrument because it has a long metal spike). So, not only did we have no clothes, I had to play the cello viola da gamba style.

A testament to the generosity of the Premio Borciani folks: they managed to unearth a local cellist who lent me her endpin to use for as long as I needed! Needless to say, this was a lifesaving gesture and has allowed us to prepare for the elimination round (we play tomorrow).

Our luggage arrived mid-afternoon yesterday, which could not have been better timing. Hooray!

I've been through Charles de Gaulle airport twice as a layover between Manchester and Italy. On the way back they lost our luggage. The courier who returned the bags to us bet we'd come through CdG. I asked how he knew, and he said that most of the lost bags came through there.

The place is a black hole for luggage. Avoid at all cost!

I traveled Air France from Frankfurt to Windhoek on the 7th ov November 2006 and true to their speciality they lost my luggage which is now lost for almost a week.

I believe they are busy following the african route and privatise the luggage

I went to Paris from MSP on frequent flier miles. NWA to D.C. Air France to Paris. One or both lost my luggage. I did not have a suit to wear to a major event nor did my luggage get back to me until the day before we left back for the States. It was a week without luggage and having to try to match a jacket and pants to make a mock suit and pay more than double the awful and pitiful cheap 150.00 USD they might reimburse when it cost over 300.00 by the second day! International flights should be banned until this low reimbursement issue is resolved.
