Release of PEAR 1.4.0a1 will be this week - with your help

Update 2005-02-23:
Uploaded new tarball, PEAR-1.4.0a1-test2.tgz with a few small fixes - I am releasing on Friday, so try it now or hold your peace until 1.4.0a2

Please install Text_Diff prior to running the tests, output will be much more informative in the .out files.

Work on PEAR has reached a climax: all expected features and all known bugs in those and older features have been fixed. As a result, I am finally ready to roll the first alpha release of PEAR 1.4.0, 1.4.0a1.

If you are feeling extra-brave and would like to help test the pre-release of PEAR, it can be found at http://pear.chiaraquartet.net/PEAR-1.4.0a1-test2.tgz. This is not an official release, and should only be used to help find any bugs that I have missed in my work prior to the release of PEAR 1.4.0a1 in a few days.
